It’s been a long while since I wrote a blog last time.
I’m Kazue Ikemoto-Mäyry and a Seinäjoki City guide as well. I hope you have some good tips before you come to visit Seinäjoki and spend a good time here by reading my blog.
It is the best season to enjoy life in Finland now. Not too cold, not too hot, not too humid, the long day and many people take 4 weeks holidays (and some take longer holidays!) That’s why there are many events during the summer.
Well, I would like to introduce Seinäjoki city guide tours in the summer this time. Seinäjoki guides offer 7 different tours during summertime. If you understand Finnish, please try it. If you don’t understand Finnish and if you are lucky, the guide could be in English.
Aalto Centre Walking Tour (1,5 hour)
Aalto Centre in Seinäjoki is consisted of cultural and administrative buildings designed by one of the most famous architects in the world Alvar Aalto. You can see Lakeuden Risti (church) , City Hall, Aalto Library, Theatre and Apila Library (designed by JKMM).
City Tour for Children (45 minutes)
This tour is for small children and their families. Since the Walking distance is about 800 m, children won’t get tired. Additionally, the tour introduces the interesting sights and historical spots in the centre of Seinäjoki with storytelling and play.
Riverside Walking Tour (1,5 hour)
If you are interested in Seinäjoki history, this may be the one. Guided riverside walks take you along the idyllic riverside promenade and you get to know the new and old stories of Seinäjoki. The walking distance is about 2 kilometres.
Piiri Tour (1,5 hour)
Though it may be short notice (the last tour is on 12.7.2022), Piiri is an interesting place. It used to be a mental hospital but the area is developed as a new area for residential, offices, and cultural activities. You get to know the story of history and the current plan for this area.
Bird’s Eye View from Lakeuden Risti Bell Tower (1 hour)
You can go up to the Bell Tower of Lakeuden Risti (65m) by elevator and get to know Seinäjoki City from the observation deck of the tower (like being a bird). You can see the developing city and the vast expanses of fields (we call it “lakeus” in Finnish). You can also see the unique shape of the buildings of Aalto Center. ItYou will know the reason why a new library is called “Apila”.
Stories of Törnävä (1,5 hour)
Törnävä area is an important area for Seinäjoki City. The development of the city began in this area. We will tour the Törnävä and the garden areas. You can enjoy the old Seinjäoki atmosphere and nature.
Uppa’s hidden parks – a walking tour from Myllysaari to the beach (1,5 – 2 hours)
If you want to enjoy the nature and the history, this tour is recommended. You will get to know the old industrial area of Seinäjoki.
