Log Drivers’ Route - Visit Seinäjoki

Log driving and log drivers are still honoured in Evijärvi. Log driving on the River Ähtävä was economically important to Evijärvi and the region as a whole. Logs brought from the Suomenselkä drainage divide were tied into rafts in Evijärvi and taken to sawmills located by the sea. A traditional log drivers’ cabin has been built in Jokisuunlahti, and the area also houses a sauna and a log driving practice area. Running through the centre of Evijärvi, the route offers a range of services. A salmon fishing pond and an open fire site stocked with firewood are located next to Kirsilä Beach. Along the route, you can climb a bird tower in the valuable Valmosanneva bog and admire views over Jokisuunlahti and Evijärvi.
