Geopark route in South Ostrobothnia

This cycling route traverses the region’s cultural landscapes and along its beautiful river valleys to the bogs and ridges of the drainage divide area.

Starting from Kauhajoki’s bus station, the loop offers a wide range of services and visitor attractions, alongside some of the finest geological sights in the southern part of South Ostrobothnia.

The route runs through two national parks: Lauhanvuori and Kauhaneva-Pohjankangas. Open all year round, the section running through Lauhanvuori National Park climbs to the highest point of the geopark. Kauhaneva-Pohjankangas National Park can be accessed from the direction of Nummikangas and Salomaa. The section that runs along the medieval Kyrönkaarentie through Kauhaneva can only be reached by bike or on foot and offers an alternative route in summer. Other geopark destinations along the route are the Hyyppä River Valley, Wolf Cave and Iso-Kakkori. The route runs through Kauhajoki, Karvia, Isojoki and Karijoki.

We recommend travelling the route in a clockwise direction. The route primarily runs along tarmacked or well-maintained gravel roads.
