The Manor House of Uppala and Alvar Aalto crossed paths in history through the previous owner of Uppala, Jussi Tala. Tala, who was the finance manager of Seinäjoki parish, became acquainted with Alvar Aalto in connection with the design of Lakeuden Risti. Aalto stayed at Uppala as a guest of the Tala family long before the restaurant opened. On one of his visits, Aalto asked to have a cherry tree from the Uppala orchard to plant in the Lakeuden park. That is to say, Aalto, for whom the garden was an important detail, like a room in the design process, chose a cherry tree from Uppala as a finishing touch for Lakeuden Risti. Now the circle is closed, as our chef Miika Harju was inspired by Aalto and created a menu named after Aalto that varies with the seasons. The Aalto menu can be enjoyed in the restaurant throughout the year. The Manor House of Uppala is located within a stone’s throw of the Aalto Centre. In addition to the Aalto menu, Uppala offers other Aalto-themed products for order by groups, such as Aalto Breakfast and Dinner, Aalto Brunch and Aalto Lunch.
